THE TITANIC LEG AWARD 2008
This prestigious award is presented after every match, the lucky winner will be the club member who has shown one of the following inadequacies during the day.
1) A total lack of cricketing skills.
2) A total lack of coordination.
3) A total lack of intelligence.
4) A total disregard for the clubs policy on drinking (ie by not consuming any alchol at any point in the day).
5) Or just simply for being a leg.
Each week the winner is chosen by the previous weeks winner, so remember always be nice to Tony! At the end of the season the person with the most leg awards goes down in the Titanic history books as being a complete LEG for the season!
Sept 14th - Jamie McGowan (3)Skipper Jamie McGowan was handed the leg award by last weeks winner Trevor after the pair were involved in a Keystone Cops style run out with the later being dismissed and finding it hard to hide his disappointment fortunately after the tears ran dry (much like the runs for the pair this season) the couple made up.
This result makes it a two way tie between Martin Cimini and Jamie for the Leg Of The Year 2008.Both having 3 wins each. The two attempted to have a drink off last night to decide the winner but the referee Mathew Fox was in no fit state to judge who won so it will have to go to a team vote at the agm.
Sept 7th No Game
August 31st Ickleford - Trevor Allum (1); Vice captain Trevor Allum was left red faced after receiving the leg award this week. His wicket keeping style was more Shih Tzu than Jack Russell. When batting he ran out team mate Tom McGowan and then threw his wicket away at a crucial time to the part time bowling of Corronation Streets Sean Tully.
August 24th Reed - Jon Woodford (3); Amazingly the current holder of the leg award awarded the leg to himself after a poor performance in the field, pulling a muscle and then not coming back onto the field until he had drunk 3 Lucozade sports.
August 17th Crawley Green - Jon Woodford (2); John Woodford picked up his second leg of the season when he was caught out looking through a local cheshunt bedroom window with his back to the ball as it rolled past him for 4 much to the displeasure of Rollo and was then tricked into thinking it happened again two overs later by the skipper who quite frankly should have been thinking about his own bowling at the time.
August 10th Houghton - Tom McGowen (1); Tom McGowan was unlucky to be named this weeks leg after scoring a good 50, unfortunately due to his diet he did not tea well and then missed a catch after being badly hampered by that old favourite the sun!!
August 3rd Baldock - Neil Newman (1); What difference a week makes.
It was a tall order for Neil to reproduce the form he showed last week, unfortunately he was too short for the job .After dazzling the crowd with his 12 ball 0 when the slog was on at the end of the innings, Newman then took to the field where he managed 1 wicket less over and then dropped Baldocks top scorer twice in three balls the first was a bit unlucky as he was hampered when backing into some tricky long grass. Surprisingly this is the first time Neil has won the leg award, but not a bad average as this only his second game this season..!!! (Picture below)
July 26th Holwell - Jamie McGowen (2); This weeks winner Jamie McGowan ,for his ludicrous decision to field first on the hottest day of the year and then lie to his team mates and say he lost the toss when the opposition rattled up 260. At least you consumed plenty of liquid in the bar after the game so you didn't go home dehydrated. (Picture Below)
July 20th Breachwood Green - Craig Bassett(1); This weeks leg award goes to Craig Bassett for a fielding display that was in the maine a load of horse play, galloping around the boundary missfielding a ball that trickled through his legs for four then dropping a simple chance. Luckily the team still managed to get past the finishing post. (Picture Below)
July 6th Offley & Stopsley - Matt Fox(1); For dropping an extremely hard catch (excellent attempt) then throwing the ball back to the stumps and hitting their batsman (good effort) who had to leave the pitch hurt. Rain stopped play so no result so others were saved as we had not yet batted. Very harsh decision!
June 29th Ickleford - Martin Cimini(3); It could have been any one of us this week but Martin just nicked this one for fielding with his arse instead of his hands, wearing a helmet which was obviously far to small for him and then being bowled out (3rd ball) by a ball that shot along the ground. (Picture Below)
June 22nd Reed - Paul Cooksey(2); Blaming the sun for dropping a catch and having his sunglasses on top of his head.
June 15th Crawley Green - Martin Cimini; Verbal insult aimed at previous weeks winner followed by a 0.
June 8th Houghton Town - Tony Cawley(1); Attempting to throw the ball in from boundary and hitting his toes.
June 1st Baldock Town - Jon Woodford(1); Dropping catch at square leg.
May 18th Breechwood Green - Martin Cimini; Faking injury after being hit for six.
May 11th Hatfield - Jamie McGowan(1); LBW no shot offered 1st ball.
May 4th Offley & Stopsley - Paul Cooksey; Refusing to go for a catch twice!!!
